The Edible Oil Refining Plant removes the gums, pigments, waxes, phosphatides and free fatty acids that are present in crude oil and that are partly harmful to health. Edible oil is indispensable in daily life and its quality directly influences the flavour of the food that is cooked with it, so refining is essential to deliver first or second grade edible oil. Crude oil without refining is full of impurities, and the refining process is the standard way to make it clean, stable and pleasant to use.
The complete edible oil refining process has five sections: degumming, neutralizing, bleaching, deodorization and dewaxing. Crude oil is degummed to remove phosphatides and mucilaginous material, usually with hot water or an alkaline electrolyte solution. It is then neutralized by adding caustic soda to remove the free fatty acids as soap stock, bleached with bleaching earth at high temperature to remove colour, deodorized under a high vacuum with live steam to remove odours, and finally dewaxed where the oil needs a low cloud point.

The refining plant is the finishing section of an edible oil production project. It handles crude oil from pressing or solvent extraction for soybean, rapeseed, peanut, sunflower, cottonseed, corn germ, rice bran and about twenty other oils, and it supplies first or second grade edible oil to the packing line. It serves small production lines and large oil plants alike, and can be delivered as an intermittent, semi-continuous or fully continuous configuration.
Packaging & Quality AssuranceThe refining plant is delivered as process modules with pots, vacuum system, filters, furnace and piping protected and braced for sea transport. We provide the complete engineering package, including flow diagrams, layouts, erection guidance and a commissioning service, together with a twelve month warranty on the refining pots, vacuum system and heat conduction furnace.
